Nanobiophysics through touch and hearing: PME activity will take place on September 25 and October 9-10

Nanobiophysics through touch and hearing

On behalf of the members of the Millennium Nucleus in Nanobiophysics, we would like to cordially invite you to participate in the PME activity “Nanobiophysics through touch and hearing”, which seeks to promote inclusion through an interactive stand using techniques such as relief models, 3D printing and electronic programming to involve students with total or reduced visual impairment, focusing specifically on touch and hearing.

The initiative is aimed at different educational levels, teachers and staff from two schools that work with people with visual disabilities: Santa Lucía and Hellen Keller, both in the Metropolitan Region, located in the municipalities of La Cisterna and Ñuñoa, respectively.

The inauguration will take place on Wednesday, September 25 at the UTFSM Campus Casa Central in Valparaíso (central courtyard) from 12:00 to 17:00.

On October 9 and 10, the exhibition will be held at the UTEM Science and Technology Building located at Ignacio Valdivieso 2409, San Joaquín, Santiago, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The objective is to approach nanobiophysics in an inclusive way and highlight the importance of research in water nanoconfinement.

Dr. Francisco Peña, N2BP Young Researcher in charge of the project, worked alongside his team composed of Alfredo Navarro, in charge of modeling, design and 3D printing, and Mauricio Aravena, Electronic Engineer.

His work presents models related to nanobiophysics: water molecule, graphene, carbon nanotubes and aquaporin. These will have an audio description and information material in Braille and text.

The outcome hopes to encourage interest and potential university study in science by demonstrating its accessibility through the use of appropriate adaptations.
