Remembering the XII version of the UTFSM School of Nanostructures

The XII version of the School of Nanostructures took place from January 16 to 18, 2024, and is held every year at the headquarters of the Federico Santa María Technical University in Valparaíso under the coordination of a scientific committee.

The school is aimed especially at undergraduate and graduate students from different academic programs related to the areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology. This meeting with professors and international guests is a multidisciplinary space for learning, discussion and collaboration of members of the scientific community linked to the study of nanostructures and their applications.

On this occasion, it had national and international guests from universities in Brazil and the United States.

We spoke with Francisco Peña, main organizer of the event, who tells us that “the objective of the school is to bring young people closer to the area of condensed matter physics, with high impact both regionally and nationally. This is because it corresponds to a school with tradition, since it has 12 versions to its credit and high quality presentations. It allows students to learn more about this topic of physics study and establish connections with professors and more advanced students to learn about their work experience. In addition, it has both experimental and theoretical presentations.”

Francisco highlights that the balance was very positive. “As part of the organizing committee I am very happy. Around 80 papers from students from all over the country were presented, demonstrating that there is great interest. In addition, in this edition there were international guests from the United States and Brazil, with talks oriented 100% to the target audience, that is, undergraduate and graduate students who will follow the area of condensed matter.”

“Currently it is three days and we are running out of time. On this occasion, I agreed with Dr. Rodolfo Gallardo and together we were able to carry out the task. For the next calls we expect greater participation from students from all over the country,” he says.
